It's an enormous world, maps and tribes and feuds and politics, and once a child is in, they're in for a long time. The series runs past fifteen books, so these five are only the beginning.
This is the series parents write in about because their child has read fifteen of them and is asking for the sixteenth. For a fast reader who tears through everything, it delivers what a game delivers, a giant world with its own rules and factions, a team to belong to, and a plot that keeps building, and there's no bottom to it. Five fat novels in the box will carry a hooked reader a couple of weeks, and the shelf behind it is enormous after that. It's all prose and no pictures, so it's for the child ready to build the whole world in their own head, and once they can, this is the one that keeps them in a chair for hours.
