A near-wordless board book about the wait for a new baby, seen through the eyes of the little one who's already here.
A new baby is on the way, and this little board book follows the wait through the eyes of the older child. Mom's belly gets rounder. There's a crib to set up and a drawer of clothes so tiny they look funny. Put a hand on the belly and you can feel a kick. There's barely any text and not much happens beyond a family getting ready together, which is right for a one- or two-year-old who's here for the pictures and the lap more than any story yet.
For a very young child, this is about as gentle an introduction to a new sibling as you'll find. There's almost nothing to read, so it moves at a toddler's pace and gives them a small part in the waiting instead of leaving them on the outside of the grown-ups' busy weeks. The pages are thick enough to survive being carried around, and it holds up to a read every night in the run-up to the birth.
