The World According to Humphrey

By Betty G. Birney

A nosy classroom hamster, and a dozen little stories wrapped up in one easy book.

Humphrey is Room 26's classroom hamster, and every weekend he goes home with a different family — where he fixes their problems, one squeaky scheme at a time.

Because Humphrey goes home with a different family every weekend, every few chapters is almost its own little story. So a child can pick it up and put it down without losing the thread, and get comfortable with a longer book without really noticing they're doing it. Underneath all the weekend visits, one bigger story is building: Humphrey winning over the new teacher who doesn't trust him one bit.
