Every chapter is a whole little adventure, start to finish, so this fat, handsome book is really a year of five-minute bedtimes. You read one story, close it, and pick a fresh one tomorrow with nothing to keep track of in between. Milne's language is gentle and a touch old-fashioned in the loveliest way, and it reads aloud beautifully. Your child will already half-know these characters from the films, so meeting the originals feels like running into old friends. Mine kept asking for it long after we'd been through it once.
