By Andy Griffiths
It looks like 250 pages, but half of them are cartoons, so it goes down in an afternoon.
Andy and Terry live in a thirteen-story treehouse. There's a bowling alley, a tank full of sharks, a machine that fires marshmallows into your mouth whenever you're hungry, and a lemonade fountain. The one thing they don't have is the book they owe their publisher tomorrow, which they haven't started. So most of the story is the two of them trying to write it while the treehouse keeps interrupting.
It's thicker than a lot of what a newer reader has finished, but there's a cartoon on nearly every page, so the pages turn fast. The story jumps from one ridiculous thing to the next at comic-book speed, and it never settles into anything that feels like heavy reading. Mine took one look at the size and hesitated, then didn't put it down. After finishing one this thick, a fat book may not look so impossible next time.
