Eight aircraft and the enormous noises they make, in a long skinny board book built for a child who isn't reading yet but already knows a jet when they see one.
Each spread is one aircraft and one sound. A biplane, a seaplane, a jumbo jet, a helicopter, a fighter jet - each drawn long and low across an oversized page, with the noise it makes spelled out in big letters for you to bellow. There is no plot and nothing to follow. It's a parade of machines with the volume turned up, and the odd stretched shape of the book is the point: a jumbo jet needs the whole width.
A plane-obsessed two-year-old wants planes, not a story about planes, and this hands them exactly that with nothing in the way. Sixteen thick pages, one machine each, no plot to sit still for. It's also the only book on this shelf a child can chew, drop, and take in the car without you flinching.
