A thousand trivia questions with a score at the end, so your child is reading hard while they think they're just trying to beat you.
A thousand questions, photographs on every page, and a running score. Some are themed rounds, some are true-or-false, some hand your child a picture and ask what on earth they're looking at. Animals, weather, space, countries, food, the human body. There's no beginning and no order. Your child opens it anywhere, answers eight questions, checks whether they were right, and gets a number at the end that they immediately want to beat. Then they turn it on you, and it turns out you don't know which animal sleeps standing up either.
For a child who hears 'read this' as a punishment, the question mark does something a paragraph can't: it demands an answer, and answering feels like winning rather than working. Your child reads the question, reads the four options, reads the answer to find out if they were right, and does that a thousand times without ever deciding to read. The score is what makes it stick, because now there's something to beat. It is also, honestly, the least story-shaped thing here, and that's exactly why it's the easiest yes.
