The arms that weld cars together, the little disc that bumps around vacuuming the floor, the rovers still driving across Mars, the ones sent into places too dangerous for a person to go. Big photographs, a sentence or two per page, and a fact box on nearly every spread. Melissa Stewart pitches it at a Level 3 reading level, which is roughly a second- or third-grader reading on their own.
A robot-mad child will push past their actual reading level for a book like this, because they already want the words in it: motor, sensor, rover, gripper. The photographs carry them over whatever the sentences don't. If yours is a year or two into reading, it makes a real solo read, and there are dozens more in the series once this one clicks.
