Little Blue Truck

By Alice Schertle

The beep-beep barnyard favorite: a friendly little truck stops to greet every animal, and when a big dump truck gets stuck in the mud, all those friends come back to help.

Little Blue rolls down a country road going 'Beep!' to every animal he passes - the cow, the pig, the duck. A big fancy dump truck roars by too busy and too proud to say hello, and promptly gets himself stuck deep in the mud. It's the little blue truck and all his animal friends who push and pull him free. The whole thing rhymes, every animal makes its sound, and there's a gentle lesson about being kind hiding inside the honks and the moos.

It gives a truck-loving toddler a vehicle to adore and a barnyard full of animals to name, all inside a rhyme that practically sings itself. The story is warm and small - be friendly, and friends show up when you're stuck - so it lands without any bracing. It's the start of a whole series, so if your child falls for Blue there's a shelf of him waiting.
