Julian at the Wedding

By Jessica Love

Julian and a new friend are part of a joyful wedding, and get gloriously muddy together.

Julian and his abuela head to a wedding: two brides, a flower-girl dog named Gloria, flowers and dancing and cake. Julian meets Marisol, and the two become fast friends. They scatter petals down the aisle, whisper under the table, and run off to a weeping-willow 'fairy house.' When Gloria's muddy paws wreck Marisol's dress, Julian has an idea, and together the two of them turn the mess into something wonderful.

Jessica Love's watercolors do almost all the talking, so even a very young child can 'read' this just by looking. It's a wedding told entirely as joy: two brides, dancing, a dog, two friends making their own fun. Nothing has to be explained. Your child simply sees a happy day and two children who make each other braver, and that warmth is the whole point.
