Two boys swapped at birth, one human and one fae, have to team up when a sorceress takes the throne.
Edmund and the Childe were swapped as babies. Edmund is really a changeling, secretly fae, living a hidden human life with a family who has no idea; the Childe is the human boy raised down in the World Below among the fae. When a cruel sorceress named Hawthorne seizes the fae throne and comes hunting them both, the two boys who were traded for each other finally have to meet, and work together, to set things right.
The art is the hook here: over two hundred pages of moody watercolor a child will want to just sink into, which pulls a reluctant reader through a rich fantasy almost without noticing the reading. The swapped-at-birth setup grabs you at once, because you keep wondering which boy really belongs where, and the fae world is strange and gorgeous. It reads a little older and denser than the comics earlier on the trail, so it belongs toward the harder end.
