A happy-go-lucky bird and a worry-about-everything squirrel go on the run from a very hungry cat, and somehow have to survive each other.
Squirrel does everything by the book. He has escape plans, safety rules, and a real, well-founded fear of the cat next door. Bird has none of that, he's carefree right up to the edge of reckless. When the cat decides the two of them would make a fine lunch, these total opposites get stuck traveling together, and the only way home leads straight through everything Squirrel is scared of.
The push and pull between anxious Squirrel and breezy Bird is the whole engine, and it's funny on every page because your child knows both those people. The chase keeps it moving fast, so it reads like an action movie with jokes. It's a clean, bright full-color comic and the opening of a series, so a child who takes to this pair has more books ready to go.
