A big brown bear and a fluffy pink hare argue over a patch of hair, using almost no words but the same few rhyming ones over and over.
There's a bear. There's a hare. And there's some hair, and neither one wants to go bare. Jeff Mack tells the whole thing with a tiny handful of words that keep rhyming and reshuffling, so the story is really carried by the pictures: two furry animals eyeing the same tuft, refusing to share, getting more and more worked up. Then they finally figure out how to sit together, and two new words turn the standoff into a friendship.
The word list is so short that a child who can't really read yet feels like they're reading, because they can predict the next rhyming word every time. That's the whole trick, and it's a good one. The art does the heavy lifting with two expressive animals and hundreds of hand-drawn furry lines, so the joke stays visual and a not-quite-reader stays right in it. Mine liked flipping back to do the whole argument again in a huffier voice.
