Kitty has gotten filthy and now she needs a bath, and the entire book is the deadpan, step-by-step story of that catastrophe. The narrator lays out the plan like an instruction manual, complete with warnings and diagrams, while Kitty schemes, hides, and detonates. It's the first Bad Kitty chapter book, and it reads like a cartoon that a child gets to be in on.
The words and the drawings tell the joke together, so a child who's daunted by a page of text keeps going because the picture is half the punchline. There's a lot of white space, the tone is silly the whole way, and it's the first of a big series, so a reluctant reader who cackles through this one has a shelf of Kitty books waiting.
