Agent Moose is the Big Forest's top secret agent, at least the way he tells it. Animals keep vanishing down at the South Shore, and when a witness goes missing too, Moose clips on a disguise and barrels in to save the day. Owlfred the owl is the actual brains of the operation. The villain is a chameleon who's very hard to spot. Between the bad puns and the disguises that fool no one, Moose somehow stumbles his way to the truth.
If your child fell for the swagger and stumble of The Bad Guys, this is the same kind of joke moved into the woods: a hero sure he's a genius, an owl quietly doing the real detective work. The pages are bright and uncluttered, the chapters are short, and there's a genuine mystery running under all the goofing around, so a reluctant reader gets the laughs and a real case to crack. It's the first in a series, so if Moose clicks, there's more waiting.
